POSTED: 12:14 pm EST January 6, 2012

Maryland State Police in Westminster are on the lookout for a man who they said assaulted a clerk at a Sykesville convenience store on Friday morning and stole several lottery tickets.Police are currently searching for Darrell Webb Jr., 21, of Sykesville. He's been charged with armed robbery, assault and theft, and more charges are pending.Officers were called to the High's convenience store in the 7400 block of Village Road about 6:45 a.m. Friday to find the store clerk suffering from several injuries after apparently being hit in the head and body with a baseball bat.Investigators said they believe Webb went into the store, threatened the clerk and then hit him several times with the bat before running away. Police said a bystander saw Webb and interrupted the assault by tackling him outside the store, but he was still able to get away. Detectives said Webb stole an undetermined amount of Maryland Lottery scratch-off tickets while he was in the store. They said they believe he also threatened the same clerk with a bat several days before.Police said Webb fled in a dark blue 2006 Chrysler Sebring with Maryland tags 8AK5106.Anyone with information on Webb's whereabouts is asked to contact state police at 410-386-3000.Meanwhile, the 21-year-old clerk was taken to Carroll Hospital Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The Sykesville Police Department is also helping with the investigation.
